Attention, 12-18 year olds! The Civil Air Patrol Cadet
Program is calling you! You are needed to perform MISSIONS FOR
AMERICA! Meet new friends, learn new skills, and have fun doing
it! Lots of opportunities in aerospace education and emergency
services, to mentor, lead, and learn. You can do it! Come, be
our guest! We meet Thursdays, 6:30 p.m., in the Great Hall,
basement of the First Baptist Church, downtown Boone, adjacent

The High Country Torch Club will meet May 12, 2008 at 11:30
a.m. for Dutch treat luncheon at the Broyhill Inn. Jim Gee will

High Country Writers meets at the Watauga County Library from
10 AM to noon. Please join us.
The Watauga Cattlemens Association (WCA) will host its
annual Field Day on Tuesday, May 13 at High Country Farm (Claud,
Virgina and Claudia Austin), Boone, NC. Gary Gregory, NC Beef
Cattle Improvement Program Coordinator, and Callie Birdsell,
Watauga Livestock Agent, will present programs on identification
methods for beef cattle, alternative weaning methods, pink eye
control and provide a demonstration on tail bleeding cattle
for BioPryn pregnancy testing. The Field Day will start at 6
pm with a meal from Bandanas BBQ, sponsored by Boone Stockyards,
with the educational program starting immediately after. The
meal and program are available at no cost to WCA members, and
is $7 per person for non-members. Annuals memberships to the
WCA are $15 per person, with the option of adding a spouse and
children under 18 for $5 each. Please contact the Watauga Cooperative
Extension Office by 5 pm on Friday, May 9 if you plan to attend
the WCA Field Day and for directions to High Country Farm.
While most of todays regulations and restrictions regarding
farm vehicles, trailers, weights, licensures, etc have been
around for sometime, they havent been widely enforced.
The NC Highway Patrol and DMV have merged departments, and Motor
Carrier Troopers are writing tickets for violations. This program
will take place at the Watauga Agricultural Conference Center
on Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m. The officer will be available during
and after the program to answer any individual questions attendees
might have. This program is designed to help Watauga livestock,
Christmas tree, nursery stock and crop producers be safe drivers
and to reduce the possibility of farmer receiving fines and
points on licenses. To reserve your seat for Regulations
