In 1972, World Champion Jean Claude Killy (center) appeared at Appalachian Ski Mountain, the first of numerous visits to the French Swiss Ski College headquartered at the Blowing Rock resort. Killy gave numerous clinics and joined in group instruction when West Point ski instructors met at Appalachian Ski Mountain. His presence lent instant credibility to Southern skiing.
