Mark Twain Returns To Barter Theatre

Barter Theatre is pleased to welcome back to its stage Barter Alumus Jerry Hardin as Mark Twain: On Man and His World, Monday, September 23 and Tuesday, September 24, at 7:30 PM.

An veteran actor with impressive stage, screen and television credits, Hardin first played Mark Twain in two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1992. The producers and director encouraged him to develop his own show portraying the American writer and humorist.

Mark Twain: On Man and His World is a one-man performance. This entertaining and a satirical sketch reveals more of the man than his work. From contemporary politics to the Garden of Eden, Twain argues the descent of man. “Hardin is so convincing, one actually feels in the company of the wise and eccentric Twain himself.” The Herald

Jerry Hardin was born in Dallas, Texas and attended Southwestern University in Texas on a theatre scholarship. Upon completing his Bachelor of Arts degree, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England.

Barter Theatre became the springboard for shows Off-Broadway, whole seasons with Arena Stage, The Alley, Stage West, Manitoba Theatre Center, The Globe and many others. Hardin spent eleven years in regional theatre appearing almost daily onstage. His film and television credits include Star Trek The Next Generation, Miami Vice, L.A. Law, Quantum Leap, Golden Girls, I¹ll Fly Away, Picket Fences and Filthy Rich. Feature films brought new opportunities to work with directors Paul Mazursky (The Tempest), John Schlesinger (The Falcon and the Snowman), Warren Beatty (Reds), Richard Benjamin (Little Nikita), Woody Allen (Sleeper), Robert Redford (Milagro Beanfield War) and Sydney Pollack (The Firm).

Mark Twain started his humorous writing in his late teen years. In 1865, Twain wrote The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, which was published in New York Saturday Press.
