Songwriter Dana Robinson Comes To Jimmy’s Java Friday

By Jeff Eason

While most music lovers are unfamiliar with the works of singer-songwriter Dana Robinson, his fans are ardent. Now with the release of his fourth album, Avenue of the Saints, Robinson is ready to make the leap toward national recognition. The album has already received universal praise in print media and by way of radio play on stations such as WNCW-FM.

Now Robinson will make his first live appearance in the High Country at Jimmy’s Java in Boone on Friday, April 11. The music starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $5 in advance and $7 the day of the show.

Robinson was born in Oregon and raised in California. In the early 80s he moved to Vermont and started performing in folk clubs. He built his own house there and founded a popular bakery and deli where he not only performed, but also hosted concerts featuring such acts as Dar Williams, Barbara Kessler and others.

In 1994 Robinson released his first album, Elemental Lullaby, and was invited to perform at the Putumayo Singer Songwriter Festival in Carnegie Hall at the request of host Dan Storper. Robinson’s appearance at the festival led to his inclusion on Putumayo’s Shelter compilation and led to his songs being played on national radio.

Following albums have included Midnight Savage in 1997 and The Trade in 2000. Avenue of the Saints has received excellent reviews so far with the folk music Bible, Dirty Linen, stating, “Many songwriters have been heralded as modern day Woody Guthries or keepers of the American rural spirit, but that mantle might be better entrusted to musicians like Dana Robinson who embody both the heart and soul of folk music.”
