Humane Society Moves Rummage Sale To June
By Mike Shands
The Watauga Humane Society is continuing one of its longest
traditions this summer, but with a twist.
The humane society will hold its 24th annual rummage sale
fund-raiser, but in June instead of August. This years
sale will be Friday and Saturday, June 17-18, at Boones
National Guard Armory from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
There was always too much going on at that time
in August, said Dee Dundon, one of the rummage sales
co-chairwomen. Were just trying something
different.
Another difference this year will be the availability
of food at the sale.
Were going to be selling coffee and biscuits
in the morning and hot dogs and soft drinks in the afternoon
each day, Dundon said.
One of the societys two largest fund-raisers each
year, the rummage sale boasts a wide variety of items
for sale from appliances to clothes to sporting
goods to kitchen items.
All funds raised from the sale benefit the humane society.
One of the easiest ways for the sale to raise funds for
the society is by auctioning vehicles, but before that
can happen people must donate vehicles for an auction.
We need vehicles that are in good working condition
that can hopefully bring in a sizable bid, Dundon
said.
The humane society will also accept donations of a wide
variety of other items for the rummage sale, including
furniture, working appliances, kitchen items, books, tools,
linens, toys, holiday merchandise, antiques, collectibles,
jewelry and clean, gently used clothing for babies, children
and adults.
The humane society requests that no hide-a-beds, console
televisions, inoperable appliances or mattresses without
beds be donated.
