Blue Ridge Community Theatre
Holds Auditions For Fall Performance
The Blue Ridge Community Theatre will hold auditions for
this falls production of The Year of the Perfect
Christmas Tree Sunday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. in the
Watauga High School auditorium.
Performance dates for the play, which is based on the
book by Gloria Houston and adapted for Stage by Virginia
Satcher, will be Nov. 2527 and Dec. 2-3.
The plays plot involves a town where a different
family promises a Christmas tree for the towns Christmas
play each year. This year Ruthies family is responsible
for the tree. In the spring she and her father mark the
tree that they will donate in December.
Her father is called to war, though. After the armistice
has been declared her father still hasnt returned.
Ruthie and her mother climb to the rocky crag one evening
and bring the perfect Christmas tree and leave it at the
church.
The next evening after the play in which Ruthie was the
angel she receives two gifts a beautiful treetop
angel that her mother made especially for the tree and
her father returning home from the war.
Those auditioning for the plays lead character parts
should look about the age listed: Ruthie (singer)
7 years old, Mama (singer) 25 years old and Papa
(singer) 25 to 30 years old. Other leader characters
include Miss Jenny (singer) the teacher in a one-room
schoolhouse and Preacher Otis (singer) the preacher
at Pine Grove Church.
Other parts include townspeople, school children ages
5 to 15 (speaking and singing roles), a childrens
chorus for the Christmas pageant, Charity an adult
woman with a small role and a solo plus additional women
and men for small roles and the adult chorus.
Everyone auditioning for leads and solos will be asked
to sing one verse of Silent Night.
