Watauga Humane Society Holds Ninth Annual
Pet Show
By Mike Shands
Pets of all shapes and sizes and their owners are invited
to the Boone Mall next month for the Watauga Humane Societys
Ninth Annual Pet Show.
The humane society will hold the pet show Saturday, Nov.
5. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by
a doggie fashion show at 11 a.m. and the pet show at 11:30
a.m. with cats going first.
A celebration of pets, the pet show is open to any pet
that owners can bring in and control safely. There will
be a wide variety of prize categories, and every participant
will receive a ribbon.
There is no fee to enter the pet show, but the humane
society welcomes donations that will enable it to continue
to care for the High Countrys homeless and unwanted
animals.
All pets in the show must be on a leash or in a carrier
and under control at all times. Parents should accompany
their young children.
The Barking Rock Boutique will hold the doggie fashion
show, which will feature canine models strutting their
stuff in the latest fashions.
Boone Mall, MTN, The Barking Rock and the humane society
are sponsoring the pet show, which will feature Tim Baxter
as emcee. Judges will include Chilton Rogers, Dee Dundon
and Mike Shands.
A dog trainer for 13 years, Rogers has also volunteered
for the humane society as a dog trainer for seven years.
Dundun retired last October after 18 years as the humane
societys president.
I am still very active in the organization because
the animals and their care are my passion, she said.
The Pet Show is not a fund-raiser, but was started
to let people show off their pets of all kinds.
Everyones pets are winners, and our humane
society presents the show to allow all of us to celebrate
our wonderful pets. Being a judge is great fun.
Shands is an animal lover who has three cats and has written
articles about the humane society since joining The
Mountain Times almost six years ago.
