Harmonia Baroque Welcomes Early Music
Guests
Free Concert at ASU February 9th
Harmonia Baroque, ASUs resident early music
group is pleased to welcome guest faculty, students and
specialists in the field of historical performance. Rebecca
Troxler, traverso player, Barbara Krumdieck, cellist,
Robbie Link on cello and viola da gamba, and harpsichordist
Henry Lebedinsky will join ASU faculty performing on period
instruments. The ensemble also welcomes the talents of
cellists Franklin Keel and Thomas La Forgia, students
of Dr. Kenneth Lurie.
The program highlights music by Bach, with the Trio Sonata
in G Major performed by traverso players Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham
and Rebecca Troxler, and continuo. Originally a sonata
for the viola da gamba, Bach himself transcribed the piece
for 2 treble voices. The sixth Brandenburg Concerto will
feature the lower-voiced string instruments of the era
with Eric Koontz and Nancy Bargerstock as viola soloists.
The Lamentation of Jeremiah by Joseph Fiocco continues
the celebration of the low instrumental voices in beautiful
contrast with mezzo-soprano, Priscilla Porterfield. Alicia
Chapman, hautbois, joins the ensemble for music by Telemann
and Muffat in delightful melodic play amongst the varied
voices of a most varied program.
The performance will be held on Thursday, February 9 at
8:00 in Rosen Concert Hall on the ASU campus. Admission
is free, and the public is cordially invited.
