Western Youth Network Adds Staff, Board Members

The Western Youth Network (WYN) announces the addition of three members of the community to its team of dedicated individuals serving the youth and families of the High Country.

Dusty Teng

Ronny Holste

Kim Eggers

Joining the WYN Board is Kimberly Eggers, a native of Watauga County and 1998 honor graduate of Appalachian State University. After her undergraduate studies Eggers earned a Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University, practiced law in Boone for several years, and in 2004 became a county magistrate.

In addition to her legal expertise, Eggers brings to WYN two years of experience on the board of directors for Watauga Opportunities as well as in classroom and leadership capacities at Boone United Methodist Church.

She is the recipient of many awards for academic achievement and activism, including scholarships to both ASU and law school. She is married to Stacy Eggers, IV. They live in Boone.

Joining the WYN full-time staff as director of prevention programs is Ronald Holste. He holds an undergraduate degree, also with honors, from North Carolina State University and is working toward his master’s in social science from ASU.

Prior to his selection Holste served for 18 months as a leader in WYN’s after-school program, where he supervised and managed indoor and outdoor activities for more than 20 middle high students.

Holste’s experience also includes more than five years in a variety of community-based youth programs in Chapel Hill and Henderson as well as Seattle.

Joining the ranks of WYN’s corps of volunteers is Daranee “Dusty” Teng, a senior journalism and Spanish major at ASU.

Teng is also a member of AmeriCorps, a nationwide network of service programs that connects thousands of Americans each year to intensive service opportunities to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health and the environment.

Prior to coming to Boone in 2003 Teng attended the University of Alabama at Huntsville on a scholarship and attained the dean’s list. At ASU she has repeated those achievements and also earned the ASU Leadership Award.

Teng’s record of previous volunteer work is extensive. It includes ASU Freshman Seminar Peer Leader, ASU Alternative Spring Break Peer Leader, MLK Challenge, OASIS, Hands On Charlotte, the Alabama Environmental Council and the Alabama Animal Adoption Society.
