Phoenix Mountain Property May Become Ski Resort

By Fawn Roark

Vincent Properties of Blowing Rock and Prestige Builders of Florida are partnering together to purchase the Phoenix Mountain property and have announced their current plans to build a ski slope there.

Jay Vincent attended the Jefferson Aldermen meeting Monday night to discuss their plans with the aldermen and to ask for their input. Vincent said he was born in the area and has lived in the northwest NC mountains for 33 years so he has only the best interest of the county and town at heart.

“We wanted to tell you what we have in mind. There is a lot of rumor going around, but we do intend to build a ski slope,” Vincent said. He noted the first thing they are working on is to get a road design and they planned to do that last Friday, but the snowy weather prevented that. They are now planning to do that this week so they can then specifically locate and design the area of the ski slope.

At this point, they are planning to use an Adirondack style at the ski slope with a timber frame look with bark exterior. “We think this will have a substantial positive impact on the town of Jefferson and on Ashe County,” Vincent noted. He said he believed a lot of good jobs and a large number of tourists will positively impact the local economy.

“We very much want to hear from the community leaders and hear your thoughts and suggestions,” Vincent said and noted that he would be glad to talk with anyone at any time. He said they were very much open to suggestions from the people here.

Vincent said they planned to come to the next Jefferson Aldermen meeting with a request for water and sewer and hopefully members of Prestige Builders would be able to attend that meeting as well.

Sheldon Good & Company Auctions America’s Real Estate Auctioneer has handled the property for Owner Eric Hunger. In the past, Sheldon Good has been rated as the largest real estate auction company in the United States by a number of prestigious publications. The company has aggregate sales of over $8 billion.

The property is one of the last, vast undeveloped tracts of property that has been for sale in the northwest mountains of North Carolina, according to Sheldon Good. With an altitude of over approximately 4,600 feet, a mile of highway frontage, only two miles from a high-growth, historic village and no zoning restrictions, Sheldon Good officials state that the property offers unlimited development potential.

Phoenix Mountain has an altitude of over approximately 4,600 feet, a ¾ mile long 300-400 foot cliff face, a mile of highway frontage, 150,000 gallons per day of sewage and water capacity, unspoiled mountain streams, only two miles from a high-growth, historic village, and no zoning restrictions.

Sheldon Good officials have stated that the property offers unlimited development potential “for a host of residential or resort usages.” The property’s open zoning provides the new owner unlimited development options, including the potential to build a premier ski destination with a charming European Alpine-style ski-in, ski-out village, corporate retreat, a residential development opportunity for luxury vacation or retiree and family residences and villas or to preserve the land as a sportsman’s club or nature conservancy.

Prestige Builders Partners is South Florida’s premier builder of exceptional residential communities and commercial properties, according to the company’s website at www.prestigebuildersgroup.net. There are currently building a number of communities throughout Florida featuring single family homes, town homes, condominiums and villas, as well as handling extensive condo conversions, complex land development ventures and successful commercial and industrial projects.

Vincent Properties has over 25 years of local real estate experience, a team of qualified Realtors, and a vast knowledge of the High Country, according to the website at www.vincentproperties.com. The business features real estate, acreage, lots, and developments in the Western North Carolina High Country and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
