The fundraising prime rib dinner and raffle held recently at Ashe County High School by the Ashe County Home Builders Association was a complete success and raised over $10,000 that will be used to support a scholarship for a graduating vocational student at ACHS.

President Darrell Hamilton of the Home Builders Association was very pleased with the fundraising event. “This was a tremendously successful event – we raised a little over $10,500 in scholarship money. This money will be used for vocational scholarship for a student at Ashe County High School. This is something else no one else is doing and we appreciate the community coming out to support us in raising funds for this scholarship.

“Jan Caddell did a great job as the emcee and the food was wonderful. I think everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to doing this again because the scholarship is an ongoing project of ours. We also really appreciated all the high school students helping out and we especially want to thank Jo Anne Lowder for all of her support. The high school just went above and beyond to help out.”

Jerry and Rita Jordan of Ashe County Garage Doors won the grand prize of $7,000. Jordan said his first thought when he won the prize was, “Thank you, Lord. We are excited and we were glad to be a part of something like this that is raising money for our students with this scholarship program. We hope that someone will get it who wouldn’t be able to go to school without it,” Jordan noted. Sherry Goodman of Active Realty won the second place prize of $1,000 while Jake Billings won the 50-50 prize of $318.

Brushy Mountain Smokehouse catered the dinner and provided the food including prime rib, salad, drink and desserts.

The Ashe County Home Builders Association seeks to educate and promote honest and ethical building practices in Ashe County while making a positive contribution to the community’s beauty and quality of life. For more information about the Association or to see pictures of the event, log onto www.ashehomebuilders.com.
