T. Grays of West Jefferson has opened in downtown West Jefferson providing a new choice for dining that is sure to please and Owner Tiger Posey is welcoming the community to come in, sit down and make themselves at home. Posey plans to offer lots for his customers and the community to enjoy, from live music on the weekends to other special events.

Posey said he is hoping that the customers will become a part of the fabric of the restaurant and he and the staff are looking forward to getting to know everyone. The restaurant is already growing after it’s opening several weeks ago and more staff is being hired.

“We opened about three weeks ago and it’s gone very well. We would like to be a little bit busier in the evenings, but I’m sure that will pick up a little more soon. Overall, it’s going really well. We have had a lot of good feedback and it’s awesome to meet the people,” Posey noted.

“I want this to just be a place where people can come and have fun. We have been very well received since we’ve been here. We have several smaller rooms where people can go to hang out and I think people seem to like it. A lot of people are surprised by the room we do have here. We just want to be place where people can come and hang out. I want the customers to feel comfortable here and just become a part of the restaurant.

The menu has lots of choices and even has a statement on it stating, “Healthy Choices Today = Happier You Tomorrow”. There are several kinds of house salads, soups, many specialty sandwiches that are served with a healthy side instead of chips of fries. “People seem to really like it so far. A lot of our customers really like the Twisted Sister Turkey Sandwich or Baby Lily’s BLT, which I strongly suggest. A lot of people really enjoy it and the Kenan’s Club sandwich is really popular,” Posey explained. “We are trying to provide healthy choices and stay away from the chips so we will have roasted potato, pasta salad, apples or a healthy side item. We want people to know that it doesn’t have to taste bad to be good for you.”

The Twisted Sister Turkey sandwich has fresh sliced turkey breast, thick provolone cheese, sliced Granny Smith Apples and crisp bread and butter pickles on thick wheat berry bread. The Kenan’s Club sandwich has lots of roast beef, turkey, ham, crisp bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, muenster and pepper jack piled high and layered in sourdough. Weekly dessert specials are available and T. Grays is also proud to offer their guests a wide variety of specialty beers and wines as well as some that everyone recognizes.

Live music will be provided on the first and third Sundays of the month and beginning in June, beer and wine tastings will be held the second and fourth Sundays.

Posey said he truly enjoys working in the restaurant business and is looking forward to meeting people at T. Gray’s. “I was 15 when I got my work permit and started busing tables and I have been working in restaurants ever since. I’ve actually worked in restaurants about half my life now and worked at Top of the Hill in Chapel Hill for about four years,” Posey said. “Then we moved to Wilkesboro and I managed the bar in a restaurant there for a while and I figured the next step was to open up my own place,” Gray explained. “I love this work – I love being around the customers and I know how important good customer service is. I just want people to come in here and be a part of the fabric of this restaurant.”

Hours are Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m, except T. Grays is closed on Thursdays. T. Grays is open on Sundays from noon until 5 p.m. T. Grays is located across the street from Town Hall in West Jefferson beside Skyland Books. For more information, call 336-846-8616.
