dedicated to creating works of art in soft pastels and promoting
standards of excellence for the use of soft pastels, the society
grew and evolved to its current membership of 86 artists.
The NCPS mission is to advance the artistic and technical knowledge
of the use of soft pastels; to guide and assist members in improving
the quality of their work; and to promote enjoyment and good fellowship
among its members. Members meet monthly for demonstrations,
programs and critiques. They also sponsor workshops for
the improvement of their members.
Soft pastel is the closest that an artist can come to painting
with pure pigments. As a result of this purity, pastel paintings
created centuries ago have retained the vibrancy and vitality
they had when first created. Generally, pastels are painted
on archival sanded paper.
The exhibit features a delightfully diverse array of styles and
motifs with dreamy still-lifes, peaceful landscape and
vibrant florals. The public is warmly invited to attend the show
from 9-5 daily except Tuesday and Wednesday. The Upstairs Gallery
is located at 1098 Main Street, Blowing Rock. They can be
reached at 828-295-6367 or through their website at www.capehartbeckgallery.com.
