Blowing Rock nightspot featured on Public Television
UNC-TV’s North Carolina Weekend films at Canyons Saturday

Watching the sunset from the deck at Canyons of the Blue Ridge in Blowing has become something of a tradition for many people in the High Country. After that, of course, it’s time to move inside to get a good seat for the live music that Canyons features after dark.

Deborah Holt, the host of UNC-TV’s North Carolina Weekend, will bring a film crew to Canyons this Saturday to explore Blowing Rock nightlife.

Downtown Senate
The UNC-TV show North Carolina Weekend will feature Canyons in its segment, appropriately titled, “After Dark.” North Carolina Weekend host Deborah Holt and her film crew will come to Canyons to enjoy some nightlife on Saturday, March 22nd. The band Downtown Senate will perform that evening and the event is being billed as Canyon’s “filming party.”

No cover is being charged for this event and the music starts at 9 p.m.

North Carolina Weekend

Deborah Holt’s program North Carolina Weekend is a weekly series committed to “bringing the best of uptown and down-home right to your living room.”

The magazine-style series explores historical sites, events, music, movies, the arts, sports, food and other activities in the 100 counties of North Carolina. Each week the series allows viewers to “hear fascinating stories behind the state’s most beloved annual festivals; enjoy insights about the area’s many historic locales; meet the many participants in upcoming competitions; catch the latest culinary delights from the best Carolina eateries; and get the latest information about the upcoming happenings and ongoing endeavors that make the Tar Heel State so great.”

A graduate of St. Augustine’s College, Holt is the producer and fill-in host for UNC-TV’s weekly Black Issues Forum, the producer for the quarterly live show High School Assembly, as well as host of North Carolina Weekend.

“I hear a lot of young adults complain that North Carolina has nothing to offer in terms of great food and quality grown-up entertainment after 10 o’clock,” said Holt. “My mission is to prove them wrong by discovering and highlighting stimulating hot spots in our state that are open after dark and late into the night.”

Downtown Senate

Originating from High Point, North Carolina, the four-piece band Downtown Senate is known for its high energy mix of electric and acoustic instrumentation and clever rock and Americana songs. The band features Benji Morris on guitar and vocals, Ted Hardin on electric guitar, dobro and vocals, Dan Powers on bass and Justin Kennedy on drums.
