Wednesday Morning Drug Sweep Leads To Arrest Of 17 Suspects.



The Ashe County Sheriffs Office continued rounding up suspected drug dealers Wednesday as part of a drug sweep they're calling Operation Sleepy Eye. Sheriff James Williams said the effort began at 5:45 this morning with a staff briefing after which two seven-man teams began making arrests. He said 17 suspects were in custody as of 11:30 Wednesday morning and the search was underway for more. The suspects are being held on felony drug charges and a misdemeanor drug charge. Williams said the defendants' have not yet been released.
