On April 10, at the New River Shrine Club meeting, Sherry Cox
recounted the events of her son Christopher's premature birth
and their subsequent battle with his cerebral palsy and other
physical challenges that they have had to deal with. Christopher
who accompanied his mother will be nine years old in June. "He
is a very bright young man who does well at school and enjoys
sports especially basketball," said a Shrine Club member.
Sherry passed around photographs and various items of clothing
showing just how tiny he was. She described some of the procedures
Christopher has undergone. Christopher was scheduled to go to
the Greenville Shriners Hospital for more surgery April 29 for
five to eight procedures which will take three and a half to four
hours. The surgery will involve cutting the calf muscles and hamstrings,
shaving bones and having a donor bone placed in one or possibly
both legs. After surgery he will be in casts for three weeks and
confined to a wheel chair, then he will have to return to have
his legs recast.
Sherry expressed her gratitude for all that the Shriners have
done for Christopher and President Randy Miles thanked her on
behalf of the club for her presentation.
