Concert held Sept. 11

The Blue Ridge Intertribal Pow Wow Association invites
everyone to come and experience a real Pow Wow.
Promising lots of Native American participation, the Pow Wow
hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. There will be continuous entertainment
that includes storytelling, flute playing, music by Native American
Music Award nominee Dave Trezak, and drumming, singing
and dancing by many Native American Indians.
There will be 20 Native American vendors with good handcrafted
items, as well as Native food vendors with items like fry bread,
Indian tacos, buffalo burgers and much more. Friday is
also childrens day, so ask your kids to ask at school
about attending the Pow Wow.
Grand entry will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, 1 and 7 p.m. on Saturday,
and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Grand entry is when all the Native
Americans gather and are led in by someone carrying the eagle
staff, followed by all veterans and then the rest of the dancers.
The location of the Pow Wow is in Spruce Pine on Hwy.
226 South between U.S. 19 and the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mile Post

Another Pow Wow at Ft. Hamby Park in Wilkesboro will be held
Sept. 19-21, with admission to the park costing $1, and Pow
Wow admission $5 for adults and $2 for children.
Dave Trezak and Vicky Hutto in Concert
Native American Music Award nominee Dave Trezak and Vicky
Hutto will be giving a concert at the Carolina Theater in Spruce
Pine on Sept. 11 to benefit two nonprofit organizations
the Carolina Theater and the Blue Ridge Intertribal Pow
Wow Association.
The performance will take place in the historical Carolina
Barn Dance Theater in Historical Downtown Spruce Pine.
The theater is being rebuilt to its former glory when the original Carolina
Barn Dance was broadcast over the airwaves in the 50s.
Many big country stars started on this stage as children, and
the theater hosts performances almost every weekend.
The performance will begin at 7 p.m. with both Trezak and
Hutto entertaining with voice and flute music. Trezak is currently
in the middle of doing two TV specials and recording a special
song that he will be performing at the concert.
Tickets for the concert are $20 at the door and $18 in advance
and are available at www.thecarolinabarndance.org . Tickets
are on a first come first served basis, and only 240 seats are
available.
