High Country Bluegrass Festival offers
local talent
Special to The Mountain Times
Festival goers for the High Country Bluegrass Festival,
which is slated for this Saturday, Sept. 6, at the High Country
Fairgrounds in Boone, will have a chance to hear national and
regional and local talent beginning at 11 a.m. and lasting through
10 p.m.
The High Country region is chock full of talent that has been
virtually untapped for years. Organizer Kenny Johnson is bringing
some of these groups to the forefront at his festival.
The Cockman Family carries a rich tradition of bluegrass gospel
music. Truly a family band, the Cockmans (four brothers, one sister
and father) offer well-honed musical skills in their singing and
instrumentation. The love for bluegrass gospel music is displayed
in their ease of playing and their camaraderie on stage. The Cockmans
are: John Cockman Sr., John Cockman Jr., Billy Cockman, David
Cockman, Benjamin Cockman and Caroline Cockman Fisher.
Southern Accent has become one of the most respected and well-loved
bluegrass gospel groups along with The Cockman Family. Southern
Accent has been performing locally and regionally since the early
1990s and has built its ministry on the promises of God. Instrumentally
and vocally, Southern Accent has developed its own easily-recognized
and well-loved sound. The members include: Gary Trivette, Dennis
Isaacs, Paulette Isaacs, Connie Norris and Blake Vance.
Other local groups scheduled to appear are Steve Lewis & Friends
and Surefire.
