A Day of Sharing Wellness was held Saturday, Sept. 13, at the
West Jefferson UMC. Dee Petersen has worked for over 37 years
as a Registered Nurse and Educator and her program offered advice
on how to be well through your body, mind and spirit.
Petersen began her work in the healing arts upon receiving a
BSN Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, and later a MA Degree from
Appalachian State University. She participates as a personal
success coach with the Total Succcess Institute in conjunction
with her wellness coaching.
A cancer survivor since 1991, Petersen has become a student
of alternative and complimentary approaches to health and wellness.
According to Petersen, through her own healing process, she
developed a deep awareness of the profound relationship between
the body, mind and spirit in maintaining health and well-being.
She is the president of her own business, Great To Be Alive,
which aims to inspire and assist to a balanced life. Petersen
said, Great to Be Alive, guides a person through a wellness
assessment focused on the whole person, identification of your
priorities for change, development of your personalized wellness
plan, use of energy balancing techniques to support achievement
of desired actions, practice of 'success habits' for your well-being
and evaluation of your results on a regular basis.

Several health wellness providers shared their ideas at the
Day of Sharing Wellness.Beckie Ballard, an educational consultant,
teaches a system of movement that integrates the brain, body
and heart for ease of learning and living. Her educational background
is a BA in English seminars, workshops and experience. Her interest
in whole brain learning including brain gym exercises started
when she was a beginning teacher in the Ashe County School System.
Ballard has 1500 logged hours in Brain Based Learning. She has
been a consultant for educational institutions including the
University of Florida.
Ashe County native Dr. Cameron S. Current, Chiropractor and
Fellow of Acupuncture, offers chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture
for maintaining well-being as well as for treatment of specific
conditions. Cameron graduated from Appalachian State University
with a B.S.B.A. Degree. He received his D.C. From Life Chiropractic
College where he graduated with honors in 1992. He also has
a Fellowship from the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture.

Michael Goopta, Accupuncturist, treats patients for pain and
other ailments. Goopta moved from Delhi, India to California
in 1983 as a graduate student in mechanical engineering.
Following graduation he started taking evening life sciences
courses in psychology, sociology and biology while continuing
his corporate job as an engineer. A strong interest lead Goopta
to acupuncture school in 2004.
Goopta says acupuncture was a natural fit for him, a logical,
cost-effective treatment to help those overcome many obstacles.

Lundee Amos, Certified Laughter Leader and Advanced Practitioner
with Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry talked about how to experience

Joyce Porter, Life Coach, offered emotional stress defusions
to assist clients in removing stress held in the body that affects
their well-being. Her educational background includes a BS in
Science and a MA in social work. Porter said her purpose is
to ignite the human spirit in expressing harmony, well-being
and love. She uses science, spirituality and her experience
to accomplish this. She has been a speaker all of her life and
uses that to call people to the possibility they want for themselves.

Marjorie Shinkle, Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist andAshe
County's only Nationally Certified Medical Massage Therapist,
has been a practicing massage therapist since 1999. She has
studied anatomy and physiology, evaluation techniques, manual
therapy, neuromuscular therapy, therapeutic exercise and neuromuscular
education. Shinkle said, the Ashe Massage Center is a dream
for her. She explained that using a whole body approach she
can identify the root cause of pain rather than simply treating

David J. Speidel, Good as New Total Body Analysis Practitioner
said he blends mystery and reality together to offer a Total
Body Analysis by measuring the body's data fields at the cellular
level against charged electromagnetic vials to see what body
functions need balancing. His educational background is BA in
History and Theology and graduate work in Business Management.

Jette Terpner, Reconnection Healing Practitioner, said she is
a born healer trained in Reconnection Healing which utilizes
frequencies to allow for the healing of the body, mind and spirit.
