Golden Oldies at the Library

By Tiffany Allison

The Watauga County Library is sponsoring the Golden Oldies Prom on Oct. 16 at the Western Watauga Community Center from 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

The idea was initiated by Evelyn Johnson and Jackie Cornett, both librarians at the Watauga branch. The theme is “rollin’ back to the ’50s.” The prom will include contests, games, prizes, food and dancing, though it is for people ages 50 and up.

“We would like younger volunteers if they would like to help,” Johnson said.

Fifties trivia and a hula-hoop contest are a few of the games that will be offered.

“We would like for everyone to dress in ’50s clothes, but it is not required,” Johnson said. “Prizes will be ’50s themed.”

Refreshments include root beer floats, MoonPies, banana splits and finger sandwiches.

The program is made possible by donations by the Friends of the Library through fundraisers.
