The Civil War in the Western Mountains exhibit
at the Banner House Museum has been extended through Oct. 18,
the date the museum closes for the season.

Featured are artillery implements, rifles, pistols and other memorabilia
from the Civil War Collection of Steve Chandler. The owner of
Clemmons Produce in Banner Elk, Chandler became interested in
the Civil War while growing up in Salisbury.
The exhibit can be seen Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.
4 p.m., through Oct. 18, and is included in the price of admission,
which is $5 for adults and $1 for children, ages 6-12.
With the recent installation of a Civil War marker at the site
one of three in Avery County the museum is now on
the state and national Civil War Trail.
Banner House Museum also recently added some notable Appalachian
books to the gift shop. Included are a number of classics, as
well as books by local authors. The shop carries childrens
toys, baskets, pottery, wooden utensils and many other gift items.
Almost all items, except books, have been discounted 40 percent.
