Featured are artillery implements, rifles, pistols and other memorabilia from the Civil War Collection of Steve Chandler. The owner of Clemmons Produce in Banner Elk, Chandler became interested in the Civil War while growing up in Salisbury.

The exhibit can be seen Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., through Oct. 18, and is included in the price of admission, which is $5 for adults and $1 for children, ages 6-12.

With the recent installation of a Civil War marker at the site – one of three in Avery County — the museum is now on the state and national Civil War Trail.

Banner House Museum also recently added some notable Appalachian books to the gift shop. Included are a number of classics, as well as books by local authors. The shop carries children’s toys, baskets, pottery, wooden utensils and many other gift items. Almost all items, except books, have been discounted 40 percent.

For more information, contact the Banner House Museum, 7990 Hickory Nut Gap Rd., Banner Elk, N.C. 28604, at (828) 898-3634, or visit www.bannerhousemuseum.org on the Web.
