AFT Continue Efforts to Raise Money

The American Legion Chickenque will be held at the Lansing ball field on Saturday, Oct. 25. Tickets are available for $10 with a half chicken with special Lansing sauce, baked beans, fresh coleslaw made with mountain cabbage, dessert and a drink of your choice.

A yard sale will also be held to raise funds at Family Central from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Chicken Plates will also be available at the yard sale and for delivery to businesses.

Help is needed selling chickenque tickets in advance, putting up posters, delivering meals the day of the chickenque, helping with the garage sale by setting up on Friday,Oct. 24 and selling the day of Oct. 25 and especially donating all those things to the yard sale that are just in your way. Cash contributions are also accepted.

Langley Air Force Base Celtic Ensemble will perform a free concert at Ashe Civic Center on Monday, Nov. 10. This is a special event for the Veterans who live, work or own property in Ashe and their supporters. Limit four tickets per person. Limited seats available. This event is sponsored by Ashelawn Funeral Home, Badger Funeral Home and Buffalo Tavern Bed and Breakfast. Additional sponsors are needed. Reception for sponsors at 7 p.m. in the lobby before the show. There will be a ceremony for Veterans at the beginning of the show. Local musicians, adult & youth, who are interested in playing with the ensemble are encouraged to call (336) 977-1427 to make arrangements.

The First Annual Chili Cook-Off at the Farmers' Market in West Jefferson will be held Saturday, Nov. 15. Prizes for First, Second and Third places will be awarded by the judges, People's Choice Award will be selected by a vote and Showmanship will also be awarded. Divisions include chili with meat only and with fillers such as beans. Hot chocolate, coffee and soft drinks with hamburgers and hot dogs for sale after the parade.

Bring the kids and make it a day in downtown West Jefferson by supporting the Lions Club Parade, the Armed Forces Tribute and downtown West Jefferson Merchants.
