North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Ashe County 4-H received
a N.C. Dept. of Public Instruction grant. The funds will be
used to continue the Twenty-First Century Community Learning
Center 4-H Teach-Reach Academic Challenges (4-H TRAC) program
which is a 4-H after school program.
This initiative targets students with Limited Proficiency or
those who scored a Level 1 or 2 in Reading, Math or Writing
on end of grade test scores at Blue Ridge, Mountain View and
Westwood Elementary Schools, as well as Ashe County Middle School.
The continuation of the 4-H TRAC program will ensure that students
will continue to receive services that will assist them in achieving
their academic goals which might not be realized otherwise due
to economic restraints and social pressures. Tutoring by school
personnel will be available in the 4-H TRAC program. Transportation
from the 4-H TRAC after school sites will be available back
to local communities Monday through Thursday after 5 p.m. Scholarships
are available to families whose children are eligible to participate
in the 4-H TRAC program.
