Kruger Brothers Return to Blowing Rock
October 27 concert at Hayes Center features bluegrass to classical

By Jeff Eason

Grammy Award-winning folk musicians David Holt and Doc Watson will be joined by Riley Baugus for a special presentation called “Hills of Home” at Farthing Auditorium this Friday.

Even if you missed last weekend’s Carolina in the Fall Festival in Wilkesboro, you still have an opportunity to catch the world renowned Kruger Brothers in an exciting live setting.

The Kruger Brothers will perform at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock on Monday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

Born and raised in Switzerland, Jens and Uwe Kruger began listening to American musicians such as Doc Watson in their teens. The brother duo has been playing professionally since 1973 and moved to Wilkes County about a decade ago.

The Kruger Brothers Band features Jens Kruger on banjo, Uwe Kruger on guitar and vocals, and Joel Landsberg on bass.

Since relocating to the United States, The Kruger Brothers have become regular performers at MerleFest, the MusicFest ‘n’ Sugar Grove and other musical events. Their albums Up 18 North, Choices and the Carolina Scrap Book series display their love for traditional music genres while expanding those styles in new directions. Along with bassist Joel Landsberg, the Kruger Brothers have released a new album titled The Suite: Music from the Spring: A Romantic Serenade for Banjo, Guitar, Bass and Orchestra that blends traditional American folk music with 20th century orchestral styles.

Last year’s concert at the Hayes Center featuring the Kruger Brothers was a sold out affair and one of the most talked about musical performances at the venue.

“Kruger Brothers performances are exciting, calming, entertaining and spontaneous, reflecting their sheer joy in playing music,” said a spokesperson for the Hayes Center. “Their virtuoso playing combined with the manner in which they interact with each other and with their audience makes their music uniquely special. The Kruger Brothers’ musical style defies definition, encompassing all styles of music through their personal individual development, classical European musical influences, and love of the American spirit. Combine it all together and the result is what can only be described as new American music.”

Tickets

Tickets for the Kruger Brothers concert at the Mariam & Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock are $22 for the general public and $15 for students. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Hayes Center Box Office at (828) 295-9627, or online at www.hayescenter.org.
