For fans of the Merle Watson Music Festival, better known as
MerleFest, one of the most anticipated times of the year occurs
each fall when the upcoming festivals lineup is announced.
Organizers of MerleFest are trying something new this year.
They will announce the talent lineup for the festival during
a special one-hour broadcast on North Carolina public radio
station WNCW-FM (88.7 Spindale, 92.9 Boone, 110.3 Charlotte,
97.3 Greenville). Radio host Martin Anderson, Wilkes Community
College Public Information Officer Christie Hutchens and festival
artist relations director John Adair will announce the lineup
and discuss the upcoming festival as well as play a few tunes
from select MerleFest 2009 performers.
WNCW is a longtime media partner with MerleFest, and
we are excited to be able to work with them to create this special
radio show, which will announce the lineup for the festival
and feature songs from some of the MerleFest performers,
said festival director Ted Hagaman.
MerleFest fans living outside WNCWs broadcast range
can hear the show via the stations online streaming broadcast,
found at www.wncw.org.
After the broadcast event, the full 2009 lineup will be posted
on the official MerleFest web site at www.merlefest.org.
Festival fans are encouraged to visit the website and
sign up for the MerleFest e-newsletter to find out more about
additions to the lineup, the history of the event, how to volunteer,
tips for visiting MerleFest, and more, said Karen Byrd,
a publicist for the annual event.
Organizers stated that the MerleFest Box Office will officially
open on Tuesday, November 11 at 2 p.m. Ticket purchases can
be made on the web at www.merlefest.org or by calling 1-800-343-7857.
MerleFest, a musical celebration of the life of Eddy Merle
Watson, will celebrate its 22nd year in 2009 with a four-day
music festival planned for Thursday-Sunday, April 23-26. The
event takes place on the campus of Wilkes Community College
in Wilkesboro.
