For each of the last two years, the Ashe County Home Builders
Association (ACHBA) has built a spec house that showcases the
incredible talents and products of its membership.
Profits from the sale of the Spec House help the ACHBA support
Vocational Programs at Ashe County High School including a Vocational
Student of the Month, Vocational Scholarships, and tool purchases
amounting to over $10,000 in the last two years. The Home Builders
also support numerous need based programs in the county such
as the Department of Social Services winterization efforts for
the elderly, among many others.
The first open house was held Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. Another open house for interested buyers and members
of the general public to tour will be held Saturday, Nov. 1
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.. The house is located on Fairway Oaks
Drive at Mountain Aire Golf Course.
"We couldn't have built this house without the generous
help of our membership," Dub Lewis, President ACHBA says,
"Our membership has really stepped up by offering us products
and services at donated or reduced prices. The result is a beautiful
home that anyone would be proud to own."
Regional Vice President for the North Carolina Home Builders
Association and local builder, Darrel Hamilton, goes one step
further. "Dub has done a magnificent job getting this house
built. He has spearheaded this project from start to finish.
Anyone who is looking to buy or build a house in the county
should really come and tour this house. It showcases the work
of some of the best subcontractors in the region."
Many of these subcontractors will be available at the Open House
to talk about the products and services that they offer. In
addition, light refreshments and drawings for door prizes will
be held.
Kelley St. Germain, Executive Officer for the ACHBA, said "this
is the only fundraiser that we are doing this year. Rather than
doing some type of raffle or sale, we thought that we ought
to do what we do best, build a house. And despite the economy,
we think that we have a house that is going to sell because
it is quality, quality and quality!" The home is listed
for sale with ERA Mountain Select Properties of Ashe.
Board Member Officers of the Ashe Home Builders Association
