The Ashe County Friends of Agriculture will host the second
annual Little Boots Rodeo on Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Ag Expo
Fairgrounds located on Highway 163 in West Jefferson.
Registration for the event will begin at 10 a.m., with events
starting at 11 a.m.
The rodeo will feature contests with and without horses for
children ages two to 18. For those children who can't or don't
want to ride a horse, the following contests are being held:
egg toss, wheel barrow race, sack race, calf scramble (two age
divisions: eight and under, or nine to 11), boot race (ages
three to seven) and a stick horse race (ages two to five, but
contestants must bring their own "horse").
Timed events will be held on horses, and contestants will be
separated into three age divisions: the Pee Wee division for
ages seven and under; the junior division for ages eight to
11; and the senior division for ages 12 to 18.
Contestants can choose to compete in the following events: the
barrel race, pole bending, Texas barrels, goat tying and mutton
bustin'. All contestants in the timed events are also required
to wear a helmet.
In the case of rain, the event will be postponed until Sunday,
Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. The fee for contestants will be $1 per event
for non-horse events or $15 per event for timed events.
All proceeds from the Little Boots Rodeo will go toward the
Ashe County Ag Expo Center.
