Main will not seek reappointment to ARHS board

Appalachian Regional Healthcare System will recognize the end of an era at its last 2008 board of trustees meeting.

A veteran board member of 26 years, Council Main decided not to seek reappointment to the board when his term expires at the end of this year.

Appointed to the Watauga Medical Center Board of Trustees in January 1982, Main transitioned to the Appalachian Regional Healthcare System Board of Trustees in 2004.  Main served as treasurer and chairman of the finance committee for most of his 26 years and supported the organization and its mission of providing health care for the High Country and surrounding communities.

“Council has been a steady rock of influence during his many years of service on the board,” said Richard Sparks, president and CEO of Appalachian Regional Healthcare System. “He was very instrumental in the negotiations for purchase of properties that joined the medical center. His even temperament, negotiation skills and his love for the institution made him the ideal person to lead these endeavors. I will miss his advice, his stories, his enthusiasm and his dedication as a board member. We thank Council for his many years of service and wish him well.”
