Project Star kickoff Nov. 7

The committee for Needy Senior Citizens at Christmas needs the community’s help again this year.

People can make a difference in the lives of senior citizens who are lonely and isolated by purchasing a gift and making their Christmas a little brighter.

Project Star is now kicking off its seventh year and has delivered gifts to more than 1,000 elderly citizens throughout the county. Individuals are asked to take a star from the Project Star Christmas Trees located at various businesses around Ashe County. The star will have suggested items needed for gift buying.

Items should be delivered to Appalachian Senior Programs, located at 414 East Main St. in Jefferson. The Department of Social Services, Ashe Really Cares, Appalachian Senior Programs, Spruce Hill Apartments and other local agencies will provide delivery to the seniors. Trees will be up and ready at Food Lion, Wendy’s and Sallie Mae’s Emporium, beginning Friday, Nov. 7, after 1 p.m.

Two hundred Senior Citizens will have a better Christmas this year due to the generosity of the people of Ashe County. Donations will be accepted, and checks should be made to CNSC, PO Box 605, Jefferson, N.C. 28640. For more information, call (336) 846-4898.
