Chris Sharma is the most recognized, skilled, and compelling figure in rock climbing and has established and completed the most difficult lines in the world. Appalachian State University’s Outdoor Programs and Footsloggers Outdoor and Travel Outfitters are excited to present Chris Sharma live in Boone, North Carolina on Thursday, October 30. ASU will play to host to one of his only stops in the southeast. Footsloggers will host a meet-and-greet and poster signing beginning at 3:30 p.m. at their downtown Boone location and at 7:30 p.m. Chris will speak at Farthing Auditorium on the campus of Appalachian State University.

In his first Southeast Tour, Chris will recount highlights, including many images, of his groundbreaking career from sending Necessary Evil (5.14c) at 14 years old to more recent projects including deep water soloing in Mallorca, Spain. On September 11, 2008 he completed his most recent project, a 250-foot mega-pitch on Clark Mountain in Southern California. Chris will also share his evolution from climber to designer of the Sharma Signature Series line of climbing shoes developed with his sponsor Evolv Footwear.

The native of Santa Cruz, California began climbing when he was 12 and left school at age 16 to climb fulltime as a professional. Chris has been the subject of a number of films in recent years many of which have been featured in the Banff Mountain Film Festival, a popular annual event in Boone drawing one of North America’s largest audiences to this internationally screened festival. Traveling around the globe in pursuit of king lines, Chris has gained a reputation as a friendly and inviting character and genuine athlete that displays a true love for his sport.

Sharma has been featured in Outside Magazine, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Esquire, Men’s Journal, GQ, National Geographic Adventure, ESPN Magazine, Men’s Health, The New York Times Magazine, The LA Times Magazine, and many more publications. He has appeared on television in ESPN’s X-Games, NBC’s Jeep World of Adventure Sports, Europe’s Transworld Sports, and on The Outdoor Life Network and Resort Sports Network. His major climbing accomplishments over the years have been documented in a series of climbing films, including Rampage, Pilgrimage, and now King Lines, featured in many film festivals including the Banff Film Festival.

The Chris Sharma Signature Slideshow Tour is sponsored by Evolv and Sterling Rope. Tickets are $5 with a valid student ID and $7 for all others and can be purchased from Footsloggers in Boone and through the Farthing Auditorium Box Office.
