Kwanzaa Celebration Nov. 18 at ASU

The annual Kwanzaa Celebration will be held Nov. 18 at Legends at Appalachian State University (ASU). Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is free, however, donations of toiletries and children’s books will be collected at the door to be given to non profit agencies in Boone.

Special guest is storyteller Obakunle Akinlana who uses drums and other African musical instruments to present fun and exciting traditional African folktales. The interactive musical performance leads to a Karuma (feast). Come hungry for knowledge and a free meal.

Kwanzaa is the first African-American holiday established in the United States. The celebration will include information about the holiday as well as symbols and traditions associated with Kwanzaa.

The celebration is sponsored by ASU’s Office of Multicultural Student Development.
