Turchin Center offers lectures, workshops

Appalachian State University and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts will hold several lectures and

“It’s informal and a fun, friendly way to explore art,” a Turchin Center spokesperson said. “In addition, mark your calendar for Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m., and dress to kill, thrill and chill at the TCVA’s reception celebrating the winter exhibitions.”

A 20th Century Masters Class will be held Nov. 19, noon-1 p.m., in the TCVA Lecture Hall. Twentieth century masters Robert Motherwell and Andy Warhol will be the focus of this presentation and gallery talk. After learning about these artists’ backgrounds, works and processes, attendees will walk through the East Wing’s Mezzanine and Main galleries to talk about exhibited work.

Saturdays, Oct. 25, Nov. 1, 8 and 15, 1-2 p.m. – “Imagination Corporation” explores language and communication, problem solving skills, creativity, positive self-concept, social awareness, empathy, values and attitudes, and an understanding of the art of theater. Pre-registration is required and class size is limited to 10-20 participants. Cost is $20. Meet at the TCVA and the group will walk to the Valborg Theatre Lobby. Nov. 8, 10-11:30 a.m. – “Leaf Rubbings, Bark Rubbings and More: Recording Textures” lets children, ages 4-6, enjoy the splendor of nature.
