Skating for absolutely free? That is exactly what is planned
for the entire community next Tuesday evening, Nov. 22, from
6 to 9 p.m. when a special speaker will be at the Skate Zone
as well. Skate Zone will be holding a special event, "Freedom
Night" with a special new guest speaker, Pastor Wes Berry.
Berry enjoys speaking to youth and working with them. He has
worked in youth ministry for almost six years and has also led
various mission trips involving youth. He has been involved
in some form of ministry since he was 18-years-old, and has
been at Cornerstone Summit for the past five years.
Berry is married to Amanda and has two daughters, Savanna (4-years-old)
and Larson (1-year-old). He and Amanda have been married for
nine years. He is also the assistant director of marketing for
the Appalachian State Athletic Department and a 2007 graduate
of ASU. His father, George Berry, has been a pastor in Watauga
County for over 40 years.
The regular hours for Skate Zone are Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.;
Friday from 6 to 11 p.m.; Saturday from 6 until 11 p.m.; and
Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday hours
are by appointment only for special groups, field trips or events.
There are also special rates available for church groups. Also
new at Skate Zone is laser tag.
Skate Zone is designed to be a location for family fun and owners
Jorge and Maria Vasquez, a husband and wife team, say they work
extremely hard to ensure it is a family friendly zone for everyone.
There is video surveillance over the entire property to ensure
the safety of the youth.
Special skating activities are featured nightly from speed skate,
limbo, power ball, skate tag to skate soccer. Talent night,
dances, all nighters and special events with speakers like the
Freedom Night are also offered.
