Men’s Glee Club performs Nov. 14

The 55-member Men’s Glee Club at Appalachian State University performs in concert Nov. 14 in the Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. The free performance begins at 8 p.m.

The singers open the performance with “The Awakening” by North Carolina native Joseph M. Martin. The composition was commissioned by the Texas Choral Directors Association for their 50th anniversary. Martin calls the piece an “homage to all the tremendous teachers and mentors who inspired my life’s song” and was written “to encourage music teachers and remind them of the importance of their impact on the lives of young people.”

The program also includes “Ave Maria,” “Songs of a Young Man” and “What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor.”

Soprano Julia Pedigo is featured as soloist with “Have You Seen A Child?” from “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” Pedigo is a member of the Hayes School of Music faculty.

The vocal ensemble “What’s Yer Pleasure?” will perform “In the Still of the Night,” “Manly Men” and “Blue Skies.”

The Glee Club will end the performance with the signature piece “Brothers, Sing On!,” written by Edvard Greig in 1935.

The Men’s Glee Club is directed by Jason D. Thompson. Rodney Ward provides the piano accompaniment.
