Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Come early for the parade and tour this home which is beautifully
decorated for Christmas by Petal Pusher Designs.
Those attending may enjoy refreshments and register for door
prizes. Door prizes are provided by some long-time merchants
in West Jefferson, including Smithey's Restaurant, W. J. Hardware,
McNeill's Dept. Store, Parker Tie, Ashe County Cheese, People's
Drug and Tis the Season. The publication, "History of Ashe"
was donated by the Ashe County Historical Society.
This home was built for Mr. & Mrs. Carl Graybeal in 1925
by Edward Mitchell Jenkins Sr. It was one of the first brick
structures built in Ashe County by Mr. Jenkins. He also built
the First Baptist Church, United Methodist Church and the Bowie
mansion, to name a few. The Graybeal structure features high
majestic ceilings, original tile fireplace, wood floors and
crown moulding. This house is a beautifully restored piece of
Ashe County history and a tribute to the Graybeal family, said
a Regency Properties representative.
Mr. Graybeal served in the United States Army during World War
I. Upon return, he established the Graybeal Drug Store. He also
served as mayor of West Jefferson for 25 years and was a partner
in the Ashe Motor Company, which is now the Ford Dealership.
Many local folks, including, G.C. Green and David Miller, have
reflected on memories of seeing the family and friends engaging
in a game of crochet on the front lawn on warm Sunday afternoons.
