Radio Scotland calls him the new male voice of Scotland. Folkworld
said "Malcolm is, without any doubt, one
of the best singers and most gifted songwriters to be found
today on the Scottish folk scene". Scots Magazine uses
one word to describe him electrifying. Not exactly a word you
would expect for a folk singer but the description is accurate.
Through his pen, voice, guitar and occasional harmonica, Jim
Malcolm has been changing people's perception of the folk singer
title for the last several years.
On Thursday, Nov. 20, Jim brings his songs, his heritage and
some humor to White Hart Woods in West Jefferson for a concert
that promises to leave you with great music memories. This winner
of the 2004 Scots Trad Music Award for Songwriter of the Year
brings the best of Scotland's music to a wonderful, intimate
setting and this opportunity comes seldom. Fortunately for the
High Country, this veteran performer's tour itinerary brings
him close enough to the area to make this concert possible.
Not only has Jim won the Scots Trad award for songwriting but
also that same year he received another honor as a member of
the internationally renowned musical group, Old Blind Dogs,
who won Group of the Year award. And now Jim has been nominated
for Scots Singer of the Year for 2008 that will be awarded next
month. His wit, style, lyrics and manner put him in a category
that transcends the folk singer label and will make for a special
evening of music.
Celtic Force Enterprises, which is owned by Ashe resident Donovan
Murray, is working in association with White Hart Woods to produce
this concert. For the last decade Murray has worked with festivals
and tourism in the High Country and currently runs the music
for the Celtic Groves and Concerts at the Grandfather Mountain
Highland Games. Now Celtic Force has expanded to handle several
events in 5 states and also works as booking agent for some
of the best performers in today's Celtic music market. Murray
stated, "Over the last ten years I've had the opportunity
to work with some of Celtic music's best entertainers. There
is no doubt that Jim Malcolm ranks among the top talent on the
Celtic music scene today."
Tickets for this show are $20 and seating is limited. The doors
open at 7 p.m. and there will be a cash bar available. Make
your reservations by contacting White Hart Woods at (336)246-3600
or clicking to www.whitehartwoods.com. This concert is being
sponsored by River House Inn.
