A Servant of Two Masters is an 18th-century Italian
comedy about a servant named Truffaldino, played by Kerry Dunlap.
Truffaldino attempts to double his wages by serving two masters
at the same time and without getting caught. This becomes very
complicated, since one of his masters is Beatrice who is masquerading
as her dead brother in order to collect dowry money owed to him.
The other master, Florindo, is Beatrices lover and is on
the run from the law for killing her brother. Beatrice is played
by Catherine Ledford and Florindo is played by Shawn Stoner.
This play by Carlo Goldoni is a comedia dellarte play, a
classical Italian form of comedy known for its use of masks and
stock characters. The production draws inspiration from the shows
comedia background while using an easy-to-understand modern adaptation
by Marvin Kaye.
Theatre faculty member Joel Williams directs the piece and is
also scenic designer. Sue Williams designs costumes. Students
Amy Stein designs lights, Sammy Cortino designs sound and Amanda
McNeice designs makeup. The dramaturg for the production is faculty
member Paulette Marty.
