Beginning Nov. 10, Neighborhood Yoga in downtown Boone will
be celebrating three years in the High Country community.
Opened in October 2005, Neighborhood Yoga is a continually
growing center of activity with yoga classes, workshops and
special events for the whole community. In addition to classes
and events, Neighborhood Yoga offers a 230-hour yoga teacher
training program once a year. The name Neighborhood Yoga
reflects both the setting and the attitude, a studio for the
moving arts that provides a space that brings together a community
of people with common interests.
With a wide range of classes for all levels and abilities,
Neighborhood Yoga supports all levels of interest from beginner
to advanced student.
We started small with only a few teachers and classes,
said Valerie Midgett owner of the studio, but now weve
grown to multiple classes, numerous teachers, teacher training,
a yoga retreat to Costa Rica and a variety of workshops and
events happening just about every weekend.
The classes and teachers are as diverse as the community of
which it is a part. With classes ranging from gentle to advanced,
including movement-centered classes like Modern Dance and workshops
and events from massage to music, Neighborhood Yoga has grown
into its vision of a community gathering place.
In gratitude and celebration, Neighborhood Yoga will be offering
two free classes, a Yoga Basics class on Thursday, Nov. 13,
at 7 p.m. and an All-Level Vinayasa (flow) class on Saturday,
Nov. 15, at 9 a.m. Both classes will be free to the Neighborhood
community and newcomers alike, with discounts provided on future
class purchases. In addition, returning students will receive
a coupon for a free class when they bring a friend to Neighborhood
for all regular classes for the week of Nov. 10. The highlight
of the anniversary celebration will be Saturday, Nov. 15, at
8 p.m. with the music of Sangita Devi, a Kirtan group from Asheville.
Kirtan is the repetition of mantra accompanied by traditional
Indian instruments. Food and drinks will be provided. The cost
of the family-friendly show is $10 per person.
