Bluegrass Jams Start December 5th
Events to be held twice at month at Western Watauga Community Center

The winter months are a time when there really isn’t much going on in the area music-wise. Festivals are hibernating until spring, outdoor events are pretty much nonexistent, and sometimes music takes a backseat to winter activities.

With that in mind, Gary Trivette, of Gary Trivette Electric in Boone, knew this would be the ideal time to sponsor and start The Bluegrass Jam. With his fellow musicians of Southern Accent, Trivette has graciously provided a time for musicians and fans of bluegrass and gospel music to come out and come together as a community.

Starting Friday, December 5th, The Bluegrass Jam will be at the Western Watauga Community Center in the Cove Creek Community on Old 421 every 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month. The Jam will begin at 7:30pm and will run until 11pm.

The Bluegrass Jam is held in memory of four musicians that have been such an influence on the members of Southern Accent personally and musically: Auborn Trivette, Paul Buchanan, Ronnie Hicks, and Ora Watson.

Camaraderie among musicians is seen best in an informal jam situation where everyone has equal standing. Different backgrounds, skill levels, age groups, and playing styles all provide for an atmosphere of learning, sharing, and giving.

Southern Accent, as a whole, is committed to providing this type of atmosphere for everyone involved. “We want everyone that is a musician to feel welcomed to come in and play or sing if they’d like. And, if there’s someone out there that is just learning to play an instrument, this will be a friendly and an ideal place for learning while being right along side with men and women who have played and sang bluegrass for years,” states Gary Trivette. “For the listeners, we want to provide a place for them to come and hear some of the incredible talent that is in this area and region.”

If you’d like to speak with someone to find out more specifics, please call Gary at 828-297-4114 or Paulette at 828-898-6828. You may also email Southern Accent at dpisaacs@localnet.com.
