Jazz Vocal Ensemble performs Dec. 2

The Appalachian Jazz Vocal Ensemble performs Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. in the Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University.

The Hayes School of Music ensemble is directed by Jason D. Thompson.

The program features Paul Desmond’s “Take Five” arranged by Kirby Shaw, Fats Waller’s “Ain’t Misbehavin” arranged by Larry Shackley, “Georgia On My Mind” by Gene Puerling and Phil Mattson, Sting’s “Fields of Gold” arranged by Greg Jasperse, “What Child is This?” arranged by Melodie Tunney and “Brazilian Noel” by Mark Hayes.

Members of the ensemble are sopranos Haley Compton and Samantha Crowder, altos Trenda Byrd and Jenna Smith, tenor Wes Collins and basses Joseph Brown and Frankie Lancaster.

The singers are accompanied by pianist Matt Powers, bass player Sam Filip and drummer Ryan Lassiter.
