Mountainhome Music announces Christmas concerts
A Community Christmas Tree Concert at Henson’s Chapel Dec. 6

 

Guitarist Wayne Henderson will perform with pianist Jeff Little at the Hayes Performing Arts Center on November 29.

In conjunction with the Watauga County Christmas Tree Association, Mountainhome Music is celebrating the holiday season with three special concerts. The first will feature National Folklife Award winner Wayne Henderson and The Piano Man of the Blue Ridge, Jeff Little. This concert, called Coming Home, will be Saturday, November 29th at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock.

A week later Mountainhome Music will move to Henson’s Chapel Methodist Church in the Cove Creek community. The concert, A Community Christmas Tree, will feature David Johnson, Steve Lewis, Scott Freeman, Josh Scott, and Little Windows, Mark and Julee Weems. The music will include traditional carols, Christmas bluegrass, and seasonal Celtic songs.

Mountainhome Music will wrap-up its 2008 season will a free concert at Grace Lutheran Church in downtown Boone on Saturday, December 13th.

According to Joe Shannon, Mountainhome Music host, for the last concert performers who have been on the show during the year are invited back to celebrate the season and the say thanks to the community for their support.

Performers this year include Steve and Ruth Smith, Steve Lewis, Scott Freeman, The Blue Ridge Vocal Ensemble, and many others.

“Those who purchase their Christmas tree from a Watauga County Christmas Tree Association farm will receive a discount coupon, which will be good at either the November 29th concert or the December 6th concert,” said Joe Shannon. “We began this relationship last year with several growers, and this year it has expanded to the entire Watauga County Christmas Tree Association. What we share in common is pride in our community.”

All concerts start at 8:00. Regular tickets are $12.50 in advance and $15.00 at the door. Tickets for college and high school students are $10.00 (at the door only). Tickets may be purchased at Mast Stores, Rydell Music Center, Pandora’s Mailbox in Blowing Rock, Fred’s Mercantile on Beech Mountain, and Blue Moon Guitars in West Jefferson. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.mountainhomemusic.com.

The purpose of Mountainhome Music is to honor the music and musicians of the Appalachian region. It is affiliated with the Blue Ridge Music Trails, a project of the North Carolina Arts Council.
