Library turns new page for ovedue readers

The Watauga County Public Library is paging community supporters to help people stay warm and well fed.

The library is holding “Food For Fines” next week to help collect food donations for the Health and Hunger Coalition. During the week of Dec. 1 through 6, the library will forgive up to $1.00 in overdue fines for each non-perishable item of food donated. Replacement charges for lost materials do not qualify.

The library also has a sharing tree to collect clothing. Gifts of mittens, gloves, or hats will decorate the library’s Holiday Tree of Giving, and then all items will be donated to those needing warm clothing this winter. The tree is located between the Reference and Youth Service’s desks, next to the New Book shelves.

The library also wants to give the gift of life this holiday season. The library is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the goal of signing up 44 donors.

The library os located at 140 Queen Street in Boone. For more information, call (828) 264-1794.
