LMC presents Candlelight Christmas Concert Dec. 6-7

Clogging, caroling and more at Hayes Auditorium

Lees-McRae College presents its annual Candlelight Christmas Concert this weekend. The event features skits, dancing and plenty of holiday music.

Lees-McRae College Performing Arts will end the Fall 2008 Season with the annual Candlelight Christmas Concert on Lees-McRae College’s campus in Hayes Auditorium Dec. 6-7.

This year’s concert will host students and faculty presentations including solos, duets, piano solos, dance pieces, reader’s theatre, talking heads and a special appearance by the big man himself – Santa! This annual tradition is appropriate for all ages and is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit!

As usual, Hayes Auditorium’s stage will be decked to the nines with several Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, presents, poinsettias and thousands of Christmas lights. The scent of evergreens and great performances with surely rouse the holiday spirit in you.

The tradition of the Candlelight Christmas Concert began thirty years ago this Christmas and has continued due to its success and community support. First held in the Pinnacle Room, performing arts faculty hung greenery from the rafters with tiny lights strewn throughout, always had a fire in the fireplace and served gingerbread and spiced tea, just like in Renaissance England.

When the crowds became too large, the concert moved to Hayes Auditorium and the college to continue to use live greenery, the cash crop of the High Country.  Each year’s concert has seen some changes, but mostly it’s become a staple for the community and campus as a sign that, yes, Christmas is finally coming.

Lees-McRae Performing Arts will entertain audiences with the Christmas Concert in Hayes Auditorium Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children and students (any student ID is accepted). Tickets are only sold at the door. The Box Office will open one hour prior to show time. Plenty of seating is available. For additional show information please visit www.performingarts.lmc.edu or call (828) 898-8721.

Lees-McRae College is a private, four-year, liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church U. S. A., located in the mountains of western North Carolina in the town of Banner Elk. The college is dedicated to service learning and offers majors in twenty-three academic disciplines.
