Eco-friendly cutting boards make great
holiday gifts

When trying to find the perfect gift for the chef in your family, stop by ArtWalk to see some of David Hadden’s beautiful cutting boards. Using scrap wood, his finished pieces are a great way to give a green gift this holiday season!

David Hadden is the creator of Woodchips Company, designing gorgeous wood cutting boards. Before Hadden decided to become a full-time woodworker, he had several other careers. He was previously a plant manager and a plant superintendent. He was also a supervisor over various operations manufacturing wood and metal parts. He is inspired by the many elements of nature, but focuses his art on wood. He tries to capture the beauty of wood in a piece that will last for many years. Each cutting board is handcrafted at his shop in East Tennessee using a variety of woods deemed scrap. With careful preparation and lamination, these discarded pieces of wood combine to create an eco-friendly product.

Hadden was originally drawn to using wood as his primary medium because of its smell and texture. The process of creating a cutting board from a raw piece of wood into a smooth solid piece of art has been a great creative experience for him. He usually works on multiple pieces at one time, saying that he can build ten to fifteen cutting boards in one day. His work is typically comprised of complex laminations, bright colors, and inlayed wood. Although known for his cutting boards, Hadden has also been experimenting with other designs. Lately, he has been building several pieces of arts and craft style furniture as well as completing kitchen cabinetry.
