Cutting up for the holidays

For the past three years, Haircut 101 has adopted a group of children from the Crossnore School for Christmas.

The Crossnore School was established to house and educate children who, for various reasons, are not able to live with their families.

“The holiday season is especially difficult for these children because they aren’t able to be at home with loved ones,” said a spokesperson for Crossnore.

Haircut 101 is sponsoring nine teenagers, four girls and five boys, ages 13 to 17. “We would like to make their holiday season special; this age group is often overlooked because of their age,” said a spokesperson for Haircut 101.

Cash donations are being accepted so that each of these teenagers may receive a few things on their wish list. Raffle tickets are being sold to raise money; tickets are $10 each.

The first place winner will receive haircuts and styling for one year (one haircut and style per month for 12 months), second place will receive a $100 gift certificate for services, and third place will receive $50 in Bumble & Bumble hair care products.

“The past three years that we have held this event was so beautiful, and the children so grateful, that we have made this an annual part of our family Christmas. The thank you letters we received would bring tears to your eyes. Some of the kids have stated that it had been the most wonderful Christmas that they have ever had, pretty sad considering that we live in the most prosperous nation in the world. The old saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ is more apparent in our ‘village’ than a lot of places in the world. We are all blessed to be a part of this community and to be able to share our good fortune with others,” the spokesperson for Haircut 101 said.

Haircut 101 will be closing early one evening to bring these young people in for a new hairstyle and a little pampering. The kids will then be given their gifts and sent out for a holiday dinner, compliments of Makoto’s
