Rainbow Center, Children & Family Services (RCCFS) is caring
for approximately 55 children and youth this
 |
holiday season through Residential Care group homes and Bridges
Foster Care homes.
"The children we serve have experienced a variety of horrors
during their young lives to include physical abuse, sexual abuse,
neglect, a troubled home life, and much more. Their stories
will break your heart, but as a community, we are able to reach
out to them at Christmas and year round to show our loving and
caring spirit," says RCCFS Campaign Chair Johns Matthews.
Rainbow Center provides two Residential Care cottages and over
20 Foster Care homes for children in need of a safe, loving
home environment, as well as a structured environment that follows
a nationally-accredited model, access to therapy, and other
needs as identified by their individual treatment plans.
"It doesn't matter why children come to us; they've all
ended up here because of reasons no child should ever have to
face. Christmas is an especially hard time of year for our children
because they often find it difficult to be happy when their
world seems to have fallen a part. We are here to help heal
each child and, if possible, their families. That's why it is
so important that we don't disappoint them at Christmas, and
we need the help of the community to make this time of year
truly special for those we serve," continues Matthews.
Rainbow Center asks that willing sponsors contact Koren Huskins
at (336) 667-3333 or khuskins@rccfs.com. The agency has a wish
list for each child and requests that each sponsor spend approximately
$50 to $100 on a girl or boy served by the center.
"Last year, several staff members sponsored children, and
it was so much fun shopping for these kids. It made you feel
so good knowing that you were going to bring smiles to the faces
of children that have hurt so much during their young lives,"
says Huskins.
Rainbow Center - Children & Family Services is a 501(c)3
non-profit organization that provides an array of human services
to children and families who are at risk in Ashe, Watauga, Wilkes
and surrounding counties. The center is accredited by the Council
on Accreditation (COA) and is a member of the North Carolina
Child and Family Services Association, the Ashe Chamber of Commerce,
Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce.
