Groups explore works by David Maslanka
The Appalachian Wind Ensemble and the Appalachian Symphony
Orchestra will perform works by composer David Maslanka Dec.
7 at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Centers Rosen Concert Hall
at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.
The wind ensemble, conducted by graduate assistant conductor
Kenneth Tysor, will perform Mother Earth (A Fanfare).
John Stanley Ross will conduct A Childs Garden of
Dreams.
James Allen Anderson will conduct the symphony orchestras
performance of the premiere of A Childs Garden of
Dreams: Book 2.
Maslanka attended the Oberlin College Conservatory, spent
a year at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and did graduate
work in composition at Michigan State University. He has taught
at State University of New York at Geneseo, Sarah Lawrence College,
New York University, and Kingsborough College of the City University
of New York. Maslanka now lives in Missoula, Mont.
Maslankas compositions for winds and percussion have
become well known works for symphonic wind ensemble, chorus,
marimba, and piano, winds and percussion.
