The Appalachian Regional Library recently completed its annual Food for Fines week, Dec. 1-6. “Some folks call it Amnesty Week,” Watauga County Public library director John Blake said.

“The idea is that, during this week, library patrons get a dollar’s worth of credit towards their fines for every item of food donated.

Library staff and volunteers collected 459 plus items of food and more are still coming in, Blake said. The food was donated to the Hunger and Health Coalition.
