Parkway unveils toy bear

Since 1997, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation has been raising money to fund various programs and projects, as well as enhance and preserve the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation store continues its efforts by introducing Parker the bear, a toy designed to teach children about taking care of the country's national parks.

Parker is a toy as well as a bank, helping to promote philanthropy among younger generations by encouraging kids to save money for the causes they love and believe in, said a spokesperson for the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.

Each Parker bear comes with a username which grants access to a Web site about the Blue Ridge Parkway, activities and events on the parkway and plants and animals that live there.

A portion of each sale benefits the foundation and its objectives.
