Cabbage Queens’ Wanda Ball
to benefit OASIS is Dec. 12

The Watauga County Cabbage Queens will be sponsoring the Wanda Ball, on Friday, Dec. 12, from 8 p.m. to midnight held at the historic Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock.

All proceeds from the dance party will benefit OASIS (Opposing Abuse with Services, Information and Shelter) Inc., Watauga County’s organization dedicated to ending domestic violence.

“Dance the night away to the rockin’ sounds of one of the Southeast’s best bands, The Swingin’ Richards,” a spokesperson for the Cabbage Queens said. “Munch on delicious hors d’oeuvres, and enjoy the full cash bar. Dress is semi-formal ‘thrift shop chic.’”

For tickets and more information, call OASIS at (828) 264-1532.

Sponsors for this year’s ball include: BB&C Builders; Susan Owen Studio Metalsmith; Maggie Sparks Dermatology; Boone Drug; South’s Specialty Clothiers; Dr. Bonnie Walker, Wellspring Chiropractic; Dr. Howard Johnson, Animal Hospital of Boone; Total Vein Care, Joseph Ty Bell, M.D.; Marshall C. Murrey, M.D; Makotos Seafood & Steakhouse; High Country Press; Sweeting Appraisal Service; Professional Women’s Network; ECR Software; Robert Oelberg Landscape Architecture; and Richard Forbes, DMD P.A.

The Cabbage Queens is a local philanthropic group of women “dedicated to having the most possible fun while raising money for people in need.” Their participation in the Boone holiday parade and their annual Wanda Ball have raised more than $35,000 for OASIS in the past decade.

OASIS has been providing services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the High Country since 1978.

Services include: free, confidential shelter, a 24-hour crisis line, individual crisis intervention, advocacy and support for clients as they navigate medical and legal processes, support groups for victims and their children, assistance securing other available community services and resources, outreach and educational programs, and a transitional housing program.

The 24-hour crisis line is (828) 262-5035 or (800) 268-1488.

For general information about OASIS, call (828) 264-1532.
